It is with great sadness that we share with you that Clayton Christensen, the Kim B. Clark Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School, passed away on January 23, 2020. A member and Fellow of the SMS, Clayton Christensen was awarded the CK Prahalad Distinguished Scholar-Practitioner Award by SMS in 2013 for his substantial contributions to research and practice. He was the author of ten books and more than a hundred articles, including “The Innovator’s Dilemma” (1997), which The Economist named as one of the greatest business books ever written. In addition to an academic career, he started four successful enterprises including Innosight, a consulting firm that uses his theories of innovation to help companies create new growth businesses. The SMS is grateful for his many contributions to the field and while we will miss him, his contributions to scholarship and practice will be everlasting.
In 2019 the SMS Board approved the creation of a new volunteer role at the SMS - an SMS Ombudsperson. The intent is to provide an additional channel of communication from membership to the SMS leadership, as recommended by the Special Committee on Inclusivity. We are excited to share that Dana Minbaeva has been appointed to serve as the first SMS Ombudsperson. You can learn more about this role and Dana by visiting the SMS Ombudsperson page by clicking below.
